Union Affairs Officer: Adam Michael

Hi, I'm Adam, and I was elected as your Union Affairs officer for 2022/2023! In this role, I look after democracy and representation in Bristol SU, and ensure that students are at the heart of Union decision-making. I’m responsible for how students interact with the Union including effective communication channels and oversight for Union services, including those provided for societies, and volunteering & fundraising (RAG).

I did Politics with Quantitative Research Methods for my Undergraduate Degree, and before being elected for this position, I was very active in societies affiliated with Bristol SU. I enjoy talking about representation, especially in giving a voice to the voiceless, hearing stories that aren't usually heard. I hope to meet and acquaint myself with as many students as possible throughout my tenure!

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with friends, playing football recreationally (both in real life and virtually), and sharing cute WhatsApp stickers!

My Priorities This Year

Democratic Reforms

  • Two monthly public forums, for all students, and society heads respectively to address concerns, criticise or scrutinise SU leadership.

  • Introduce approval ratings for SU Officers.

  • Designed to eliminate the disconnect between students and SU leadership

Deadlines

  • Extend deadlines to 5 PM, reducing the strain all-nighters have on our physical and mental health.

Housing

  • Lobby the university to provide a guarantor service to ease housing burdens.

What have I done so far?
