10 things to look forward to this term

Monday 07-01-2019 - 09:00

Exams and deadlines may be looming, but there's plenty to look forward to on the other side. Here are 10 things to look out for this term...

1. Balloon Bar Beer Festival

What better way to celebrate the end of exam season, wave goodbye to the January blues and welcome in a new term than a Beer Festival? From 24-27 January, The Balloon Bar will be showcasing the very best local beers and a few cheeky ciders too.

2. Refreshers

We loved Welcome Week so much we thought we'd have a round two... Refreshers Week will start on Sunday 27 January with the Refreshers Fair, followed by a week of different events. There will also be sports club and society Give it a Go sessions happening throughout February.

3. Elections

Yes it's that time of year again and EVERYONE is eligible to run for a role. Whether you want to lead the union as a full-time officer, or become a course rep there's something for you. There are also two brand new roles to look out for this year.

4. The Bristol SU Living room

Had enough of student life meaning that your central heating is only on for an hour a day? Escape the cold and enjoy the recently opened SU Living Room. Hang out, relax and make yourself at home with tea, cake and crafts.

5. Six Nations Rugby

The 2019 Six Nation Fixtures have been unveiled and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be live-streaming every single match, bringing you seven weeks of rugby shenanigans. It all kicks off with France V Wales on Friday 1st February at 8pm in The Balloon Bar - reserve a table for a guaranteed seat!

6. Sustainability Month

We know that sustainability is a big part of student life in Bristol, which is why February is dedicated to sustainability at Bristol SU. Look out for events throughout the month and the Zero Waste Fair on Sunday 10 February. You might also be interested in the Volunteering Fair on Wednesday 6 February.

7. LGBT+ History Month

LGBT+ History Month is a month of remembrance, celebration, exploration and discussion. Following on from last year, there will be a number of events across the university and city throughout February to mark LGBT+ History Month.

8.  AMM

Everyone's favourite opportunity for democracy, discussion and pizza! Join us on Tuesday 26 February for your chance to improve your university experience and vote on Bristol SU policy. All students can vote at this meeting, so make sure yours counts!

9. Bristol Jazz & Blues Festival Bristol

Back for the seventh edition, the Anson Rooms is one of the venues that Bristol International Jazz & Blues Festival will be taking over in March. With a mix of swing, funk, bebop, blues, Gypsy jazz, gospel, soul and rock ‘n roll it never fails to delight - and there are student tickets available.

10. Varsity

Second term means one of the biggest sport events in the South West: Bristol Varsity. Whether you’re part of a sports club or not, Varsity always proves to be one of the biggest and most exciting events of the year. It’s not just about the players, but the spectators who make the incredible atmosphere at every game. It’s the perfect occasion to rally together in high spirits, get behind your university and be proud. Check out what's happening here > http://www.varsityseries.com
