The days are getting shorter, the weather's getting colder and the excitement of Welcome is now behind us. If you're feeling a little low then there is support available. Here are seven simple ways that you can support yourself this autumn.
One of the easiest ways to connect with other students is by joining a student group. Lots of our student groups are running free Give it a Go sessions this October, which is a great way to try something different and meet new people.
Peer Support groups are groups which are for students, by students. Bristol SU is working with PROJECT:TALK to develop a selection of free, supportive groups to support your mental fitness. You can view the current groups available at bristolsu.org.uk/peersupport to find the right one for you.
Sometimes we all just need a break and a space to relax. The Bristol SU Living Room is a space for you on campus where you can do just that. Have a hot drink, play a game of table tennis or curl up with a book and a blanket. The SU Living Room is getting an extension this term so keep an eye out for even more relaxation space.
As part of Black History Month, the Bristol SU Black Students' Network are hosting a selfcare Sunday. Join other Black students to have some deep conversations, write each other letters, share affirmations, and more.
The PROJECT:TALK Mental Fitness Ambassador Programme empowers passionate individuals with a platform and the tools to make the difference they want to see in their community. If you're interested in giving peer support or leading a mental fitness activity then consider becoming a Mental Fitness Ambassador.
If you're a native or fluent speaker of a language, then why not volunteer for the Global Lounge Language Cafe? It's a great way to meet different people, and support other people with learning your language. If you feel like you're far from home, then sharing your language and culture with other people might help.
If you're choosing to use drugs or alcohol be cautious and get support if you need it. Bristol SU has a partnership with The Drop which allows all students to receive free confidential support. To book an online or in-person session with The Drop you can call 0117 987 6000 or email info@bdp.org.uk. The Drop also offer free drugs reagent test kits for those who need them.
