Thursday the 15th of March sees the return of Ignit10n. Over 20 societies and 800 students will come together and face 10 hours of challenges in order to raise money for Bristol based charity Above and Beyond.
Now in its fifth year Ignit10n has raised over £37,000 for Above and Beyond, a charity which aims to make a difference to the lives of patients, families and staff in Bristol city centre hospitals.
This year they are aiming to raise £14,000 in order to help fund a new bowel cancer research fellowship at Bristol Haematology and Oncology Centre (BHOC). This fellowship will be a four year post and will greatly increase the amount of research BHOC are able to do, improving the chances of finding a cure to bowel cancer.
In the run up to the big day the Badminton club are throwing a 10 hour UV badminton rave in the Anson Rooms on 12 March. There’s going to be music, UV lights, paints and markers, and badminton all day. Head down for a great time and to support a fantastic cause.
On 14 March the Tennis society will be doing a grueling 24 hours tennis marathon at Coombe Dingle. There’ll be doubles, touch tennis, wheelchair tennis, and even a friendly tournament and they’re aiming to raise £1000 with this mammoth task.
It’s not all sport though; the Creative society are aiming to create a 10 metre wall chock full of ideas for tackling mental health. On top of all of that there’ll be loads more challenges on the 15th.
Challenges that Bristol’s students have completed in the past include the Boat Club rowing the equivalent distance between earth and the International Space Station, the football team playing a giant inflatable game of foosball, the Lacrosse team cycling the equivalent distance from the UK to Canada and the Cycling team undertaking the tasty ‘Tour de Burrito’, cycling between Cardiff, Bristol and Bath and eating a burrito in each city.
