A wide range of societies have been affiliated this term: check them out and get involved!

Balkan Society

Balkan Society is a group to connect those from Balkan countries (Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, North Macedonia, Bulgaria, Romania and Greece) and also those that are just interested in any of the countries, have friends from there, or like the food and drink. They regularly host parties, film nights, pub quizzes and other various group events.

Caribbean Society

Caribbean Society is a new cultural and colourful society of the University! They are dedicated to sharing the unique culture, customs and way of life of the extraordinary Caribbean, while doing some dancing, eating some delicacies and having a great time with the Caribbean students of Bristol and any and every student who wishes to immerse in the carnival that is the Caribbean. At their first event, they hope to connect with the Caribbean students of the University and try and feel as at home as they can in the cold of November!

Czech and Slovak Society

Czech and Slovak Society is for anyone who is Czech, Slovak, a bit of both, learning Czech or just loves Czech beer! They aim to build a strong community of Czechs and Slovaks at the University, support those who learn the beautiful language and share some pivo and rizky! You can look forward to film nights, language exchange, food, Czech beer hunts and some volunteering with the Czech and Slovak School Bristol.

University of Bristol Turkish Society

University of Bristol Turkish Society welcomes everyone who takes an interest in Turkish culture! The society will organise events including pieces of culture, history, art, literature, sports and cuisine as they are descended from Turkish society. They plan to organise fairs that introduce Turkish cuisine, academic talks in relation to Turkish art and history, concerts and musical events that introduce Turkish music. In so doing, the desire is also to facilitate the integration of Turkish speaking students into the life of University of Bristol and British society.

Bristol Data Science Society

Bristol Data Science Society aims to grow awareness, to all students, on the careers they can pursue within data science as well as gain valuable skills sought by employers. There will be plenty of opportunities to acquire or train your data science skills and, most importantly, to put them in practice by working on data-driven projects which are organised with the help of small and medium sized companies around Bristol. In the upcoming weeks, workshops and introductory events will take place. Are you ready to shape the future with data?

Maths and Computer Science Society

Maths and Computer Science Society is a society open to anyone and everyone with a particular interest in Maths, Computer Science, or both! They plan to run a number of events throughout the year including socials and talks with internal and external speakers. They wish to empower course representatives and help support the students on their course.

Drag Society

Drag Society has arrived! Interested in Drag? Love Ru Paul’s Drag Race? Ever been told you’d look great in those fishnet tights or dashing with facial hair? Whether you’re a seasoned pro, a blissful beginner or just have an appreciative heart, Drag Society will give you opportunities to express yourself, explore Bristol’s Drag scene, develop makeup artistry and even perform!

MineSoc

MineSoc is the official Minecraft Society for the University of Bristol. They love playing Minecraft and having a good time. Minecraft is one of the most played games ever to exist, where players have unlimited capacity for creativity and inventiveness. They will be building a large survival server, building competitions, hunger games and more. Outside the game, they are going to host casual meetups and socials every month to build a community.

Reeanctment Society

Reenactment Society does dozens of shows across the country each year, showcasing authentic historical combat, craft (blacksmithing, woodwork, drapery), cooking, church and fashion to the public. It is generally Norman era, but they occasionally do Romans. Combat has often been described as “paintball but with swords” and is a competitive sport with hit-zones and hit-points. Of course, there is no pressure to fight. New members are welcome and can be provided with training kit.

Don't forget to keep an eye out for more societies waiting to be set up!
