The final Student Council of the year is just around the corner and it’s the first time we’re taking it digital. All students are invited to attend but only student leaders will be able to vote.
Here’s a quick run-down of the motions that have been brought forward to be debated at Student Council on Thursday 18 June. Feel strongly about any of these? Make sure your course rep, faculty rep, network chair, JCR president, society president or club captain is present and representing your voice.
This motion mandates the SU to run an official Global Health shortcourse available to the entire student body, and support the course campaign with funding and marketing.
This motion aims to educate staff and students at Bristol University on the harm of fatphobic language and mandates Bristol SU to work closely with Beat This Together.
This motion aims to improve the welfare of students through harm reduction information about alcohol and other drugs, and ensure that drug testing kits are available to students.
This motion aims for the SU to source funding for a full-time BME Officer to ensure there is a full time officer solely dedicated to representing, advocating and championing BME students.
This motion asks for a fairer and more sustainable way for student groups to book the Winston Theatre for their activity throughout the year.
Currently the PG network is chaired by one student. This motion proposes a reform to the current chairing arrangements to ensure one PGT chair and one PGR chair for better postgraduate representation.
This motion proposes the formation of a Black Student’s Network to better support the BME network in ensuring the well-being of black students all year round. They would like to collaborate on events for Black Students with the BME Network but run as a separate body to better focus on the specific and diverse issues of Black Students.
This motion aims to educate students on how sex workers can stay safe and be supported. For students engaged in sex work directly, this would mean challenging the barriers that partaking in sex work may create in their education.
This motion mandates Bristol SU to work with their university counterparts to increase transparency about University and departmental spending, and ensure that information is made accessible to every student.
Like the sound of this? Is there something you feel passionately about? Make sure you join us on Thursday 18 June from 4pm!
The meeting will also include updates from each of the full time officers. You can see the full agenda online now.
