February marks the beginning of LGBT+ History Month and the theme for this year is ‘politics and art’.
To celebrate and commemorate, we’ve teamed-up with our LGBTQ+ Society and Trans Student’s Network to bring you a series of events, including arts and crafts, information stalls, quiz nights and sports sessions. To find out more, including event details and locations, you can visit our events page.
We will also be running the Rainbow Laces campaign, which aims to highlight LGBT+ individuals and allyship in sporting communities. We aim to use this campaign to look introspectively at Bristol's sporting community, to celebrate diversity, and to encourage further efforts to diversify sports going forward.
This campaign is being spearheaded by Leah Martindale (Equality Liberation and Access Officer) and Obafemi Alabi (Sports and Student Development Officer), who are working in partnership with Sport, Exercise and Health (SEH). As part of this work, a number of LGBTQ+ B:Active Sessions will be taking place towards the end of the month. More details will be made available in the coming weeks via the SEH B:Active webpage.
The campaign will kick start with Leah and Oba handing out rainbow laces on 2 February to sports club captains and students.
We hope you will join us to learn and celebrate throughout LGBT+ History Month!
