Five Bristol SU societies have been shortlisted across six different categories at the National Society Awards.
Almost 800 nominations were submitted by student societies from around the UK across the 11 categories.
In 2018 only one Bristol SU society was shortlisted for an award so it is a huge achievement for significantly more to have been shortlisted this year.
Here are the societies who have been shortlisted:
• Best Academic Society – Chaos
• Best Fundraising/Campaigning Society – The 93% Club
• Best Media Society – Epigram
• Best Society Event – Best of the Southwest – A Capella Society
• Most Improved Society – Women in Finance
• Best Society - Chaos
Last year Chaos were shortlisted for the same two awards and picked up achievements in both categories as they won Best Academic and Careers society, and were named as runners up for the Best Society Award. We’re hoping they can repeat this success (or beat it) this year!
Union Affairs Officer Stanford said “I’ve always said that Bristol is the home of the highest quality extracurricular activity on the planet! Six nominations (as many as the host SU!) is a testament to that quality and triples our efforts of last year. Huge congratulations not only to the nominated groups but all our student groups who work so hard day and night to provide the best possible experience for their members. Every one of you deserves a nomination - love you all mwah mwah.”
Bristol SU is home to almost 400 clubs and societies – one of the highest numbers in the UK. In 2018 over 18000 memberships were sold to students.
The award ceremony will take place on Tuesday 30 April in Manchester. Congratulations and good luck to all of our societies who have been shortlisted – we hope you’ll be bringing home those trophies!
