Our networks are spaces for students with shared identities or interests to come together and make a change. Every year our Network Chairs work to make things better for the students they represent with passion and conviction. Here are just a few of the highlights from this year so far...
If you feel inspired to improve the student experience, then this could be you! Find out about the roles available and nominate yourself or recommend a friend by Thursday 27 February.
Our Women’s Network Chair brought together women’s organisations and feminist activists from the University and wider community to march for women’s right to be safe from harassment, before descending on the Anson Rooms for a night of talks, performances and music. They also held a very popular Women's Taster Day as part of Reclaim Month, helping Bristol students to try a range of different empowering activities.
Our BME Network celebrated Black History Month through October with the biggest line-up to date. Professor David Olusoga was the keynote speaker in a programme which included a poetry evening, 7 Saints of St Pauls Tour and Pan-African Festival.
Our LGBT+ Network and Care Leavers & Estranged Students Networks each ran a series of events for students this Christmas who might not have been returning home for the holidays. This helped to build a community and support network among those students as well as spread some festive cheer.
Our network chairs came together to encourage students to register to vote before the General Election in December.
Our RAG, Volunteering and Sustainability Network have brought together a series of events dedicated to sustainability. Including a Zero Food Waste Feast, trip to a recycling centre, mass tree planting and more. You can see everything taking place at bristolsu.org.uk/sustainabilitymonth
Our LGBT+ Network Chair has teamed up with the Trans Network and the LGBT+ Society for this year’s LGBT+ History Month. Events include a panel, film screening and performance showcase.
As part of Disability History Month our Disabled Students Network held a survey to conduct research into the experiences of disabled students on campus so that their student experience can be improved.
Our Wellbeing Network hosted a series of different events to highlight Alcohol and Drugs Awareness week and Stress Awareness Week. Alongside BILT and the Education Network, they are currently working on a Wellbeing Conference open to staff, students and the general public.
The Education Network helped to communicate about strikes in late 2019 and came together to discuss the consultation on how striking staff's withheld pay should be spent.
The Chair of the Societies Network has set up a new mechanism for presidents to be able to share resources and ask for advice from each other, developing the student group community.
