New Student Groups: March 2019

Thursday 21-03-2019 - 09:00

Refreshers fair seems like a long time ago, and Welcome fair is now a distant memory... Whether you didn't find the society that was right for you, or you still have a little time to squeeze in something else, you should check out the new range of student groups that have been affiliated this term. Read on for a brief summary of each of them!

The University of Bristol Barbell Club are passionate about Powerlifting and Olympic Weightlifting. They are an all-inclusive society for people new to the gym, ready to compete and everywhere in-between.  They will be meeting up at the University gym twice a week to train together.

Cat Soc is a new society for those who share a love of felines! They have the purr-fect remedy for pet-deprived students: a range of cat-themed events in store, including volunteering opportunities for a local cat shelter, visits to the cat pub, and film nights, as well as exciting collaborations with other societies. Whether you’re there for dress-up socials or tea and biscuits at a bake sale, Cat Soc has it all and can’t wait to meet you. It would be paw-some if you joined!

Eurovision Society say “Good Evening Europe (and Good Morning Australia)”! Whether you’re a hard-core Eurovision nerd or a casual viewer of the Saturday night grand final, they want to bring all Eurovision fans together. They aim to bring all the music, entertainment and laughter of the contest to everyone in society events and socials, such as screenings of the contest itself, pub quizzes and lots lots more… so give them your ‘douze pointes’ and join today!

Bristol IFP Society is a social platform for all International Foundation Program (IFP) students and holds culture-mingling activities ranging from drama and music to food, thus helping students to successfully make the transition into IFP from overseas. Bristol IFP Society also helps IFP students transit into undergraduate study at Bristol by linking them to IFP alumni. Social activities are often held for both IFP students and alumni so they can get acquainted with alumni studying our target degrees now. This offers not only guidance on succeeding in IFP, but also insights into undergraduate study and even future careers.

Students for Life is a pro-life, pro-woman society focusing on opening conversation and fostering the pro-life feminist philosophy. Pro-life feminism seeks to protect the dignity of all human life from conception until natural death. They will hold debates, panel discussions and socials in which they will discuss issues such as euthanasia, abortion, surrogacy, capital punishment, and many more.

University of Bristol Ukrainian Society is here to present a new colourful world to you: the rich, saturated culture that you probably haven't heard much about. Lucky for you, there are many of us here who are willing to preserve our traditions and welcome everyone who is curious to learn more about them. They also focus on promoting connections between Ukrainian students, the Ukrainians of Bristol and the UK. Join their cooking events, trips and socials or just meet lovely people!
