New Student Groups: May 2019

Thursday 02-05-2019 - 13:39

Thought you'd seen every society at Welcome Fair at the start of the year? Think again! A range of new student groups are affiliated each term - and here are the latest to join the Bristol SU family...

Afrolit

The AfroLit society will provide an outlet to discover and appreciate literature produced by African writers in a safe creative environment for students with a vested cultural interest and those that are looking to enrich their literary palate. They’ll have fortnightly book club meetings, where they will consider books, plays and/or poetry written by people of African ancestry, and hope to host panel and spoken word events, workshops and possibly recitals and performances!

ABACUS

ABACUS, the Association of British and Chinese University Students, welcome you but don’t worry, there’s no maths involved! They’ll be running weekend dim sum trips, Chinese card/board game nights, biweekly parties and chill mingles. They’re all about providing a safe space for University of Bristol students, especially both UK-born and international students identifying as a member of the Chinese diaspora community, to meet, connect and share meaningful experiences.

ChildSoc

ChildSoc is a society for anyone with an interest in working with children! They aim to have a balance of both academic and social events to appeal to everyone. They plan to invite guest speakers from multiple disciplines and arrange careers talks, as well as organising bi-monthly socials such as film nights, bar crawls and themed nights out.

Elevate Studio

Elevate Studio – Kpop Dance Society welcomes everyone interested in dancing to Korean pop music or making new friends! Lessons will consist of self-choreographed dance and kpop covers. No level of dance requirement is required and they look forward to meeting everyone.

The Management Society

The Management Society welcomes all Management students and anyone interested in Management! They’re looking to foster a better sense of community through family schemes, socials and networking events, amongst students and with staff. They also seek to enrich learning through talks and events involving industry professionals and organising Management workshops and career advice. If you’re looking to widen your social circle or curious to know more about what Management is, then look no further.

Unity and Diversity in Law

Unity and Diversity in Law is a society for law students from all walks of life, who feel passionate about increasing diversity in the legal sector. They aim to empower students from diverse backgrounds and bring change. Their planned activities include by-students-for-students workshops, panel discussions, beginner negotiation activities and many more! They pride themselves on promoting a friendly, casual and non-competitive atmosphere, so that their members can achieve their full potential at the pace that suits them. Join them to break through the stereotypes of what the typical lawyer should look like.

Environmental and Energy Law

The University of Bristol Environmental and Energy Law Society (EELS) is a society open to students from all courses who are interested in either a career in law or making a difference to the environment that we all share. They plan to host a number of events such as talks with accredited speakers to discuss the importance of law and regulation in the fight to stop climate change and damaging environmental practices, promote awareness of environmental issues and provide workshops and fairs to support access to legal careers.
