On Wednesday 6th June a team of student volunteers gave up a day of their time to volunteer at Robinson House.
Bristol SU were contacted by Brunel Care to help brighten up the garden at one of their nursing homes in Stockwood. Robinson House supports 70 residents living with various stages of dementia to enjoy each day to the fullest. The staff were keen to give their residents year-round colour in the garden as well as something to talk about. We were happy to take on the challenge.
A team of Bristol SU volunteers spent the day painting a bold and bright garden inspired mural for the residents which included giant flowers, butterflies, bees and balloons. We had such a great time getting to know residents and re -invigorating their garden. As it's such a large garden we will be back in October to continue the mural.
“I took part because I really wanted to make a difference to someone's every day just by brightening it up. It was lovely to speak to the residents and carers and have them involved with us painting. It will be really great to go back and finish the job.” - Jade Campbell, 2nd year Economics and Finance student
Bristol SU currently supports around 1000 students through student led volunteering projects, one -off activities and an online brokerage tool to get involved with the wider Bristol community through volunteering.
“Volunteering at the home with the other students was great fun and I’m really pleased with what we’ve done so far! The residents and staff were hilarious and made us feel really welcome so I hope we can go back soon to finish the job!” - Rose Sidebottom, final year Politics and Sociology student
