The Richmond Lectures: Nominate your dream speaker!

Wednesday 26-10-2016 - 15:39

Nominations for the 2017/18 Richmond Lectures are open! Fill out this form by the 30th October and tell us who you'd love to see come and speak at Bristol.

The Richmond Lectures are the University's flagship public lecture series where we invite external speakers who have been nominated solely by students. Now in their second year, they promise to be bigger and better, and follow on from some truly inspirational lectures last year from speakers such as George 'Jonny' Johnson, the last Dam Buster, Wendy Darke, head of BBC Natural History, and Bob Marshall-Andrews, barrister and former MP.

Given the fact that nominations are taken solely by students, it is important that we collect as many as possible to give the greatest array of speakers. Don't hold back either - the invitations come directly from the Chancellor so will hold some weight and attract the very best speakers - so really do nominate your dream speaker! Anyone is able to nominate a speaker, so long as they are part of one of the many societies here at Bristol.

So what are the benefits of nominating a speaker? If a speaker who is invited accepts the invitation and your society nominated them, then you will be asked to co-host the lecture itself! This will give the opportunity for members of your society to meet with the guest speaker, and introduce them at their lecture. Your society will also get to work with the Richmond Lectures team to help coordinate and advertise the event.

More information about this year's main series will be appearing soon, but in the mean time get nominating, and be on the look out for a very special one-off lecture this term!
