Varsity: April Preview

Tuesday 03-04-2018 - 09:00

April is a busy month for Bristol as Varsity continues to take over the city.

The first event of the month and definitely the most colourful - The Big Colour Run comes to Coombe Dingle on 22nd April! If there’s an event from Varsity that everyone can get involved in, this is it. Especially as the event is opened up to the entire Bristol community, alumni and athlete alike. This definitely isn’t about running expertise though, this is an event all about getting out there, having fun, and getting a bit messy. Plus you get a t-shirt and sunglasses, so that’s pretty cool.

And it gets better. On the same day as The Colour Run, Varsity brings T20 Cricket at Coombe Dingle for free. Plus with The Colour Run ending at 2, that gives us time to nip on down to the Cricket. There’s no better (or more quintessentially British) way to spend a spring Sunday afternoon.

So, on to the next and arguably most eagerly anticipated Varsity event - it’s time to welcome Total Varsity Wipeout. The ultimate combination of Knockout, Total Wipeout and good old-fashioned team spirit comes to Coombe Dingle on Wednesday 25th April. It’s expected to be a popular one -  let’s be honest when else are you gonna get the chance to mess around with your mates on 12 giant inflatables... in fancy dress… for £18.75? You might even get to see your lecturers head to head as this event is open to University staff.

Now for the weekend and the Ashfords LLP Boat Race! Held in the most iconic part of the city; with the SS Great Britain, Clifton Suspension Bridge and the Harbourside industrial cranes as the picture-perfect backdrop, this is a Boat Race with a difference. And not just because of the view. This year will see series of edge-of-your-seat racing with the Varsity Boat Sprint series.

And now, the curtain closer, the big one - the Ashfords LLP Varsity 10K. We’re staying at the harbourside for the closing event as runners are given the chance to speed past landmarks like SS. Great Britain on this beautiful (and luckily) flat course, perfect for both those starting up and those with their game face on, looking to set their new PB... Plus, for £16 not only is it probably the best valued, best located 10K in Bristol but you even get a free sports massage thrown in. Oh and a medal of course, after all, you’ve earned it.

This is an exciting and fun month for Varsity with big events expecting equally big turnouts. And why not join in on the fun? Treat yourself, whether it’s taking part or cheering on, have a break from the deadlines, you need a bit of colour in your life.
