As you might expect, Welcome 2020 will look different this year and we’re still working out a lot of the detail. However, we’re working hard to make sure that what we deliver continues to be high-quality, engaging and fun.
The focus of Welcome will be to connect students to each other, build a sense of community and connection to the university and city. Events will take place online and in-person, and will follow government guidance. We are working in partnership across the University with the likes of Global Lounge, Sport, Exercise and Health and Resilife to deliver a full events programme.
All events which are part of the official Bristol SU Welcome will use the word ‘official’, be hosted by Bristol SU and carry the Bristol SU logo. There are a number of unofficial Bristol Freshers programmes run by promoters which are already live and selling tickets for club nights there is no guarantee will go ahead. We’d encourage students to exercise caution when considering external events.
We will start launching the official programme from Thursday 13 August (A-Level Results Day) at bristolsu.org.uk/welcome.
More events will be added to the programme from 13 August as it becomes clearer what is possible to be held in-person, as well as Give it a Go activities ran by student groups.
There will be a number of virtual events which will be held online during August and September pre-arrivals for students to take part in, which will then become a mix of in-person and virtual events.
This year’s Welcome Fair will take place online on Wednesday 7 October using the platform VFairs.
Bristol SU's Official Welcome Fair is the best way to kick start your University year. Sign up to sports clubs, societies and volunteering projects, find out more about Bristol SU and meet commercial stallholders giving out freebies and discount codes.
At the virtual fair you'll be able to chat to stall holders live online using the interactive chat, with options for video, audio and text-based chat as well as viewing online resources. Best of all, the virtual fair will be available on demand for a month afterwards so you can catch up if you miss anything.
