Assessment Guide

Tuesday 10-05-2022 - 16:36

We know that exam season can be a stressful time for students, that’s why we’ve pulled together this short practical guide to help you navigate it!

Here’s a rundown of the key services, resources and study spaces available to you:

Study Spaces

Whether you’re looking for a quiet space to study or relax with your lunch, there’s plenty on offer.

Our top tips: If you’re looking for an alternative space to study on a sunny day, the University Botanical Gardens have Wi-Fi and entry is free for students. Also, don’t forget that the Bristol SU Richmond Building can be quieter than Senate House.

Wellbeing

If you need wellbeing support during this time, simply fill out a Request Wellbeing Support form to be connected with the right support or service. The University has a Student Wellbeing Service, Residential Life team, Student Counselling Service and Disability Services team.

 Just Ask

Just Ask is the SU’s academic advice service. We can help if you have questions about illness over the exam period, missed exams, late submissions etc. Contact us using our enquiry form or send an email to bristolsu-justask@bristol.ac.uk

Extenuating Circumstances

If you’ve been affected by illness or an unexpected event and feel that your attendance or performance in assessments has been affected, don’t forget to submit an extenuating circumstances form by the first working day after the exam period ends. Just Ask can help by looking over your form text before you submit it and answering any questions you have about the process.

Self-certification

On the day of your exam, if you’re not well enough to sit it, you can self-certify your absence without needing to provide any medical evidence. You should contact your School Office before the exam starts to let them know you are ill and they will give you the self-certification form to complete. Usually, the exam will be rescheduled for the August resit period. Be aware that if you don’t pass the exam in August you will probably have to take a supplementary year.
