On 23 March, Universities UK proposed that an expert panel is set up to review the valuation of lecturers and university staff's pension scheme. In the meantime (until April 2019) existing pension conditions would stand. Yesterday the Universities and Colleges Union (UCU) announced that it would be putting this proposal to a vote of its members. UCU have also said that they plan to go ahead with plans for strikes in the summer term.
You may have heard that strike action is currently planned at thirteen Univerities in the week of Monday 16 April - University of Bristol is not one of these universities. However, UCU says that further action at all 65 universities, including Bristol, will be confirmed for the summer term if the pensions dispute is not resolved by then. We will give you up to date information on any strike action planned as soon as we have it.
Bristol SU will be working with the University of Bristol and UCU to ensure our students and our lecturers are properly supported throughout the period of the industrial dispute. In our meetings with the University, we are particularly focused on how to make sure no student is unfairly disadvantaged in assessments or exams.
