The Best Student Life. Bristol SU

Food for Thought Findings

In November 2018 Bristol SU and the University of Bristol teamed up to launch the Food for Thought survey - a survey for all students and staff to feedback on food and drink at the University and SU and shape the new food court and SU bar on campus. This followed 2017-2019 Union Affairs Officer Stanford's pledge to review the Balloon Bar through an all student survey.

The project had one of the largest response rates of any Bristol SU research with 1200 staff and students responding to the survey.

Some of the key findings included:

  • Only 35% of staff and 21% of students agreed they were receiving value for money from the university’s catering outlets.
  • 86% of staff and 81% of students agreed that the friendliness of staff and good service were a benefit of current catering provision at the university.
  • For the new food court in Senate House students wanted pizza and all-day breakfasts whilst staff wanted a deli bar and a salad bar.
  • Students wanted to see more variety of options in the balloon bar, and also wanted discount and loyalty cards.

You can read an executive summary of the findings below.
